The biggest difference between the original calendar and the modern calendar is that the modern calendar has constantly cycling weeks.  The weekly cycle of the original calendar started over again with the appearance of each new moon.

“The endeavors of Rabbis Juda Hanasi of about 170 A.D., Rab, Jocchanan, Mar Samuel Jarchinai, 160-250, Adda bar Ahaba, Hillel II, who lived still later, created the basis of the constant calendar.  It was introduced about 300 A.D.”  (O.
